All Ages & Levels

A wonderful privilege of being a piano teacher is being able to share the joy of music and to inspire students through the music making process.  Learning to play the piano not only enriches one’s life, but also teaches important life skills, such as diligence, dedication, and perseverance.  Playing the piano also provides many cognitive benefits, as it requires a complex integration of visual, auditory and kinesthetic senses in the brain.

Dr. Kim strives to instruct her students on artistic playing, musical interpretation, technical proficiency and performance skills, all leading to the enjoyment of playing the piano and developing a lifelong appreciation for music.  Additionally, Dr. Kim will guide her students to develop proper technique, good practice habits, problem solving skills, knowledge in music theory and history, and sight-reading and aural skills.  Students will gain more confidence and independence by learning to express their own thoughts and emotions through the interpretation of a musical work.

Dr. Kim’s students have been achieving outstanding results and performed at prestigious venues, such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as the winners of several international piano competitions for young artists.  Her students have received certificates with high marks and awards from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Certificate Program, Music Educators Association of New Jersey (MEANJ) Piano Auditions and National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC ) festivals.

Dr. Kim is firmly dedicated to professional development and always passionate about learning new pedagogical approaches to effectively teach diverse learners.  This includes taking piano pedagogy courses through the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Gorin Institute.  This has enabled her to provide a customized lesson plan that suits each individual student from different levels and musical backgrounds the best way possible.

Dr. Kim is a RCM Certified Teacher and a STEINWAY Teacher & Educational Partner.

Dr. Kim has served as a member of the Piano Competition Committee and an adjudicator for the Piano Auditions at the MEANJ.  She is currently a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Georgia Music Teachers Association (GMTA), Gwinnett County Music Teachers Association (GCMTA), North Fulton Music Teachers Association (NFMTA), and the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC).

Dr. Kim welcomes students of all ages and levels.  She is also happy to advise students who need help with preparing for competitions, college/conservatory auditions, music examinations, summer festivals, recitals, etc.  The curriculum and repertoire will be designed according to each student’s needs, interests, potential, and learning style.  Dr. Kim is primarily focused on the classical piano repertoire, but her teaching may include other genres of music, such as jazz, popular music, and religious music.

Lessons are held at Dr. Kim’s home studio in Buford, Georgia.  Dr. Kim can accommodate online lessons as well.  The studio is equipped with multiple cameras and microphones to enhance the student's visual and aural learning experience.  Dr. Kim also uses a tablet to interactively teach music analysis, theory, history and sight-reading.
